They come to Greenland during the summer, from June - September to eat large amounts of krill and small fish. The whale typically comes from Haiti and Puerto Rico, where they breed in winter. Humpback whales can grow up to 15 meters long and can weigh up to 30 tons.
The humpback whale is the whale we usually see in the fiords around Nuuk, and it is easily recognizable on the beautiful tail. To experience these giants of the sea at close range is almost a spiritual experience that overwhelms many.
